RUSSIA: 312 FISHERMEN RESCUED FROM DRIFTING ICE Hundreds of ice fishermen were rescued by boat, barge and helicopter in Russia's Far East when the ice they were fishing on broke free and drifted out to sea. The fishermen, 312 in all, were fishing off Sakhalin when winds separated a large section of ice and pushed it from shore, news agencies said. No fatalities were reported. C. J. CHIVERS (NYT)
